FORD KUGA MODEL

FORD KUGA MODEL

The Ford Kuga is a compact SUV crossover model that started production in 2008. It is built on the same platform as the Ford Focus and Ford C-Max.

Ford Kuga models have front or all-wheel drive. Although it is not very off-road capable, this crossover is comfortable and spacious, which is why it was awarded the title of Lithuania's Family Car of the Year in 2021.

Interestingly, the name of this model - Kuga - translated from Serbian-Croatian or Slovenian languages means plague. It is precisely because of this name that Kuga sales are significantly lower in these regions.

Currently, the third generation of Ford Kuga and two facelifts have been released.

REVIEW OF FORD KUGA MODELS BY GENERATION

REVIEW OF FORD KUGA MODELS BY GENERATION

Ford Kuga I (2008–2013)

The first Ford Kuga model debuted in 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Ford Kuga design was created based on the Ford Iosis-X concept and had kinetic design features.

The kinetic design of the Ford Kuga was characterized by large lower radiator grilles, long straight lines from the sides. The quality of the solid exterior design was matched by a spacious cabin and practical interior.

Initially, the first generation Ford Kuga was equipped with only one 2.0-liter TDCi diesel engine. Later, the engine range was expanded to include a 2.5-liter Duratec turbo I5 engine. Typically, the Ford Kuga was offered with front-wheel drive, but drivers who wanted to maximize engine power had the option of choosing an all-wheel drive system.

Advantages

The first generation Ford Kuga was a modern, stylish, maneuverable and practical family car. Its distinctive feature was its high level of safety - "soft" bumpers, an impact absorbing zone in the front of the car, plastic front wings, and lights for passenger and pedestrian safety.

Ford Kuga II (2013-2020)

The second generation of Ford Kuga was introduced in 2013. Based on the Ford Focus III platform, the Kuga has undergone only a few changes compared to its predecessor.

The new Kuga is sportier and larger, with a 82-liter bigger luggage compartment that opens and closes by moving your foot under the rear bumper. The capacity can also be increased by folding the rear seats.

Safety-wise, the Kuga has greatly improved and has received top ratings in safety tests. Equipped with the latest Ford technologies, the Kuga II features:

  • Lane keeping assist
  • Blind spot monitoring system
  • Electronic slip protection system
  • Collision mitigation system
  • Automatic high beams
  • Driver alert system
  • Road sign recognition system
  • Intelligent all-wheel drive system (which evaluates driving conditions based on 25 different parameters and adjusts power to each wheel accordingly).

However, the handling of the Kuga has slightly deteriorated with this generation, despite being modern and high-quality.

The Ford Kuga II is an almost perfect city SUV for families and travel enthusiasts.

Ford Kuga III (2020–Present)

Ford Kuga III (2020–Present)

The third-generation Ford Kuga is almost identical to the slightly larger Ford Focus. This SUV is the first Ford to be built on the C2 platform.

While not extraordinary, the new Ford Kuga design, new engines, and even more space and new technologies inside differentiate this model from its predecessor.

Despite looking compact at first glance, Kuga III has one of the most spacious rear cabins in its segment. With this generation, manufacturers have continued to improve the safety system, which resulted in changes to the body architecture, as well as the implementation of Post-Collision Braking technology.

Under the hood, there are new engine versions: a plug-in gasoline-electric hybrid (225 horsepower solely electric range of 45-63 km), a self-charging hybrid battery-powered engine, and two turbocharged four-cylinder engines, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Android Auto.

Ford Kuga III (2020–Present)

Main features

  • L3, L4 engines | hybrids
  • All-wheel drive | front-wheel drive
  • Automatic and manual transmissions

  • Transmission: 6-speed manual | 6-speed Powershift automatic | 8-speed CVT automatic

Advantages
